This is way early (Friday is the paper release date), but it's my birthday, and I'll post if I want to. That, and I doubt there's much school paper / DA watcher overlap at this point.
While I was considering going for a more sketchy style ( [link] ), I decided I'm not ready to do that just yet, if ever for this. At the very least I think I'll stick to more of an ink-like look.
Ok, as for what's going on in the comic itself. This is the sort of gag that I think is somehow less dirty with the gender roles reversed. It's a double standard, I know, but I think it would be considered more dirty if Tori was a guy drawing a woman streaking through the mall. Any disagreement on this would actually be refreshing
Oh, and for those wondering about how messy Tori appears? Well, she's working with charcoal. That stuffs MESSY, and Tori doesn't mind. I do, however. I go out of my way to only get one hand dirty, and to keep the rest of me charcoal free. I don't always succeed, but I try.
Panel by panel:
Panel 1: Tori's fierceness while drawing is an exaggerated version of the vigorous drawing style of someone actually in the life drawing class I'm taking. One time he drew in red, and I stated that he had attacked the paper and his drawing was the result of the paper bleeding.
Panel 2: Tori's pose in panel 1 was pretty much precisely what I wanted, but I realized that I just made her drawing with her left hand and I'd already drawn panel 3 with the charcoal in her right hand. It's a happy accident, as it makes her seem all the more wild with her drawing style.
Panel 3: This panel, in my opinion, looks so much better than the others, and I think it's because I sketched it off of the computer (the rest is 100% computer generated). I think I just get better results with sketching off the computer, but it is more time consuming just account on scanning alone.
Panel 4: This is based on two things, the first being that I occasionally get tired of drawing the literal interpretation of what's in front of me. I'd rather use the model as a reference and make something new. The second is that there is a shortage of male models for my life drawing class, and I figure Tori would get tired of always drawing women.
