Description

Not the best picture, I know, but this is less about the picture itself and more about the story that goes with it.

During a break from the Keenspot booth at the 2007 Comic-Con in San Diego, I was wandering around the convention center. I had my camera with me on the off chance of finding a cool statue, display, and/or cosplay to take pictures of. Celebrity impersonators may have been on my mind, but not actual celebrities.

While wandering as such, I came across a man being interviewed. This might sound like it was a red flag, but there were reporters all over the place interviewing average convention goers far more frequently (that I could see) than actual celebrities. Thinking the people conducting the interview were likely more famous than the person being interviewed, my first photo was actually of the camera man.

Then I realized I had actually seen the guy being interviewed before, but I wasn't sure where. Then it hit me, but I still wasn't ready to say with certainty who it was. I pretty much always second guess myself when identifying people I'm not used to seeing.

It was so loud that I couldn't hear the interview itself, but I kept taking pictures just in case I was right and finally got confirmation when I spotted his badge:

Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy, Angel, and Firefly. I was just a few feet away from Joss Whedon, and I photographed the CAMERA MAN first.

Once the interview was over, I briefly contemplated just going about my business, but a boldness that I don't usually have took over. I walked over to him, and said "hi, I'd just like to shake your hand".

I know some manner of pleasantry occurred after shaking hands, such as "enjoy the con" or "have a nice day", but I don't remember what it was. I just remember walking back to the booth, my mouth slightly ajar, and my hand still somehow feeling the effects of having shaken his hand. When I was back at the booth, I had but one thing to say:

"I think I just met Joss Whedon."
