Croakapult

Description

Much like Bowlbit, Croakapult is my own creation, but inspired by Pokemon (owned by Nintendo and Game freak). Unlike Bowlbit, Croakapult isn't intended to be cute, and was designed around a made up move. Everything down to its personality and type was reverse engineered from its made up move, which I will get to momentarily.

If Croakapult was a pokemon, it would be as follows:

Type - Poison
Bad Attitude Pokemon

Ability: Nasty Demeanor
However happy this pokemon might be, its happiness value in battle is at its base happiness (in other words, it's happiness is always low in battle).

Flavor Text: Even if ecstatic, appears annoyed. Can lift and throw almost any weight with its gigantic tail.

Croakapult would have above average HP and attack, average defense, and special defense, and below average special attack and speed. The idea is that Croakapult has a huge tail, so there's no way this critter will be speedy.

Default attacks:

Lick
Leer

Level up attacks (incomplete and in no particular order):

Frustration
Mud Shot
Acid Armor
Toxic
Slam
Double Edge
Mean Look
Catapult (custom attack)

I think there MIGHT be a move out there that throws items (or at least berries), which Croakapult would obviously have to have, but I don't remember the name and don't plan to hunt for an attack that may or may not actually exist.

Anyway, here's the attack idea that resulted in this critter coming into existence:

Catapult
Type: Varies
Attack Power: Between 20 and 120
Physical or Special: Physical (IE goes by attack value and not special attack)

Effect: Throws an ally of player's choice at the opponent. The type of the attack is the same as the 1st type of the thrown pokemon., and THROWN pokemon (not Croakapult) takes recoil damage. Attack power calculation is as follows:

60 * (weight of thrown ally / weight of opponent). Result cannot be lower than 20 or higher than 120 and will be rounded up or down if needed.

This attack gives Croakapult a huge amount of versatility. Most pokemon can only have four types of attacks. Depending on what other types of pokemon are in your party, Croakapult could theoretically have eight.

There are obvious downsides, of course. The thrown pokemon takes recoil damage, so you're hurting your reserve pokemon. Also, for it to be truly powerful, you have to have a party of heavy pokemon and hope the opponent has a lighter lot.

In addition, since this move would be unique to Croakapult, the pokemon itself adds flaws. Type poison is relatively easy to oppose, and Croakapult's low speed almost guarantees that it will attack second unless fighting a slower pokemon. Basically, that means it will likely only get to attack first against heavier pokemon who will be better able to withstand the move.

Nonetheless, combining Croakapult with a Steelix who has an ability that prevents recoil damage? That would be beastly ^_^

Now that the move has been explained, so has its personality. This is a critter whose entire basis is around throwing and injuring its own allies. An angry poison type custom made to make use of Frustration seems to fit nicely, no?

And yes, once again, I have put way too much thought into this. But really, I put too much thought into EVERYTHING.

Hm. I'm not too big a fan of the design, but as for the concept, it's one of the best I've ever seen from a fan-mon. But that's just me. I'm a big Pokemon nerd. =_=
