EDIT: Modified Ds, Es, Fs, and Ts.

Again, MY font is on top. The bottom is faux-bold Comic Sans. This font is a Work In Progress (WIP), and there are tweaks left to be made.

This is actually a different font altogether than the one I was testing before. This one is designed specifically to be similar to, yet distinct from, the Faux-Bold Comic Sans MS I've been using. I'll note why I'm even bothering in the last couple of paragraphs.

EGS has used variations of Comic Sans since the beginning, and it has become part of the style, so I don't want to deviate too wildly. Still, there are plenty of things I don't like about Comic Sans, and this is my opportunity to not include those things in my own font:

The "A" has more negative space. I mean, you can tell the "A" in the Comic Sans is an "A", but you can often barely see the white space in the middle, if at all.

The exclamation point is more dramatic. The Comic Sans one is practically a straight line given how little space there is between the top and the bottom.

It's not shown in this comic, but I've replaced {} with little burst-like images to use with sound effects. I've used * in the past for lack of something better.

I still need to make more adjustments. As I said, this is a WIP. One thing I think I should adjust are the Ds (EDIT: Adjusted). I think I made them a bit too rounded. I also think the Ts could stand to be taller (EDIT: adjusted), and I need to tweak the spacing slightly to truly fit the letters as I've made them. There's also some more technical stuff to figure out, but I need not list them here.

- WHY? -

The fact that I've been using a faux bold is key. For those among you who don't have big typography parties with "guess the leading" games, it is most professional to use actual bold, italicized, etc. fonts instead of having a program artificially make the regular font darker, slanted, etc. With Comic Sans MS, however, regular is too light, and bold is too dark. The "bold" I get via Flash MX 2004 is a fairly decent middle ground.

I know what some of you are basically thinking: "don't base your decisions on what others decide is or isn't professional. If it works, use it!" The problem is that MX 2004 is imperfect, particularly when importing from Illustrator, and I intend to upgrade it at some point. Now that Adobe is in charge of Flash, that means there's a REALLY good chance that the choice will effectively be made for me once I upgrade.

Really like the new typeface, but in case some critique helps here's my comments. The words look just a little bit too loose/wide in general, easy to read word by word but maybe a bit much when reading sentences as a whole. (That might just be my preference to serifs speaking though, sans fonts always look loose to me.) The new exclamation mark is nice but the question mark vanishes into the text a little too much. Perhaps make it a tiny bit taller say half the stroke width. The "O"s seem a bit too wide compared to the rest of the text, especially when you have "OO" such as "FOOD", maybe make it closer in size to a closed "C". Kerning between the H and U in UH-HUH is a little tight, especially compared to the space between U and H on the opposite side. The "S" almost feels like a smaller font or lower case letter. Look at "ONEs" for example. Though this is true for Comic Sans as well. "P"s seem a bit small/narrow as well. The "N" feels a bit out of place. Looks okay at the end of words but look at it in the word "THINGS", almost feels like it's from a different font. Hope this is helpful. BTW I really like the oblique characters they look much better than the comic sans version.

I can spot differences here and there, such as the letters are more even in thickness and such, and it's nicer and easier to read.

Yes, easier to read. The Dees are much clearer, but I see no difference in the Eees.

^-^

Dan, before I read the explanations of the differences in the fonts, just at a glance I found the font on the top to give the impression of being bigger, bolder, and easier on the eyes to read.

On the top one I noticed an inconsistency in how the capital I was produced. I prefer seeing the "I" not looking like a lower case L. In case there is a name like "Illila" it doesn't look like "lllila".

Other than that I think I prefer the top version over the bottom.

Minor differences, but I think your new font is clearer and more legible without being too different in style.

^^; I don't see much of a difference.

So long as the stories remain awesome, I really don't mind.:iconohjoyplz:

Ironically I had no idea you had a deviant art :-P
Anyway teh font is teh awesome.
I definitely see the more space, and I kind of like it better, though the original has a bit of a more artistic look to it.

P.S. This Sarah reminds me of Alphonse Elric. Me and my addiction to FMA :-P

You do really have to look to see the difference between the two versions, but I guess on balance the new font *is* slightly more legible, and if that works even on a subconscious level, well and good.

I do happen to like the serif I in Comic Sans because it makes it stand out more, but maybe that's just me...

I'm confused. why do we care here? this is such a minor difference, why bother even running it by us?

I mean, ok, flash is imperfect. big deal? you can see as well as us whether it's readable, and given the ridiculously minor scale of these edits it's hardly even possible for it to be unreadable. just go for it if you think this new font is going to make your comic look more professional or some such. it doesn't affect us readers in the least.
