We have a few vicious-looking weeds in our yard that look kinda like that. Probably the only reason we haven't pulled them is because they have spikes covering literally every square centimeter of their being and it would probably hurt like hell just to touch it.

I hate those things. They always get in my dogs' fur. Cool photo though.

It's also the plant that inspired the invention Velcro, and it tastes like Artichoke, celery, or dandelions depending on who you ask.
Every part is edible, but the roots are the prized part to most.

They are considered Vegetables in Japan, and invasive weeds in America ^_^;;

It can also be used to treat infections and Acne, used as a decongestant and diuretic, used to fight colds/flu's, is currently being studied as a potential treatment for cancer (The arctigenin in it has been shown to slow tumor growth), detoxifier, and also has been shown to lower blood sugar, so I believe some research is being done into using it to assist treatment of diabetes.

The oil of the roots is also massaged into the scalp to treat thinning hair and dandruff.

Burdock should not be taken by pregnant women.

This has been a paid message by your Burdock sponsor, we now return you to your previous programming.

That's burdock. It is used as a cure for poison ivy.

Wonder if the interior is edible.

Be careful of those, they'll grab onto your clothes like supervelcro and it's hard to get them off without hurting yourself.
